First Cage Cleaning

I finally cleaned the tortoise cage for the first time. It was starting to smell like urine and poop and my mom couldnt take it anymore. I did the same thing as last time. 50/50 mixture of sand and Bed-A-Beast about 2 inches thick. Except this time I got good sand from Home Depot. This time I am going to remove the poop as he does it inside the cage so it will last longer. He mostly poops outside anyways so its not that big of a deal. I will also include a good stack of hay and the same piece of bark that was in there before.

Tortoise and the Dog

Our family owns a pretty mild mannered border collie mix. We I first got my tortoise I was very reluctant to let the dog anywhere near my tortoise, not because I thought our dog might hurt it, but I thought the tortoise might be traumatized. I have recently been letting them interact under supervision and our dog just seems to want to watch it and occasionally go up and sniff it. The tortoise doesn't even seem frightened. I never let the dog get too close for too long a time though. The dog even seems to lose interest in the tortoise after a while. No that I would recommend everyone to let their dog near a tortoise unless you are sure they will be ok together.

Update

So far everything is going well. I am soaking my tort about everyother day instead of the weekly plan. He has not escaped again thankfully. When I first got him his nails where very long in the front and back, but now he is outside he dig inside he pen and I noticed his nails are now the right length. His back nails still look a little long though. His current diet mostly consists of collared, poppies, purslane, and dandlion which is occasssionally mixed in with bell pepper, strawberry and black berry leaves, and spinch.
